A former chef of mine from SCCC called me to do a cake for the final job of her catering co. Carrie was having an over-the-top birthday bash with a jimmy buffet theme. And over the top was right, her "garage" was transformed to a sandy florida beach on one of the coldest days of the winter. Wish I could have stayed for that party.

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a LONG while. Here is what I have been up to.....

One of the Hellions ( a roller derby team in Troy) called on me to do a "Big Lebowski" themed birthday cake for a fellow team member, thought a chocolate cake in the shape of a bowling pin might work :)

I had a customer call from NJ asking if I could recreate a cake that her local shop had done before. (they were not able to do the 200+ mile delivery) With a few minor changes to the original design I created a 4 tier pink velvet cake for a huge batmitzva in the Adks. And the boss of the year made the delivery for me :)

Bacian Feast Wedding

I delivered this wedding today to Erlowest in Lake George. I was given some basic design information from the bride and groom during our consultation. But she left most of the design up to me. I was to create a "Baccian Feast" themed wedding cake, with green and red being the predominant colors. I was surprised to see when i entered the room, that the cake matched the room and decor perfectly, it looked as if i made the cake in that room! All sugar work was made by me, including every little grape, and leaf. David from Renaissance floral design was there capturing my every move setting up the cake- i can't wait to see his shots. This was the last delivery of a hectic weekend, I really wanted to sit down at the amazingly decorated tables and have a drink, but instead i have to get back to the bakery and get ready for 6 more weddings next weekend!

This one is my favorite wedding cake i have ever done. I combined single a double layer tiers with an elegant white on white design. Gumpaste flower topper is just perfect, and cute budgies honor the bride and grooms beloved pets.

There have been many times when a customer has asked for edible images on the cake. Although we do not have the equipment to make them, some customers order them online, or go to price chopper, get the image for me to put on a Bread Basket cake. In this case- a loyal BB customer purchased images for me to create a fantastic birthday cake for her dad. These images were printed on rice paper which I adhered to gumpaste discs I made earlier in the week. Placed in chronological order, these edible images are perfect to celebrate and honor 90- years.

i think this was my favorite cake this summer. The customer called to place a cake order, then when i said "And how would you like it decorated?" She laughed and said, "Any chance you could put Lionel Ritchie on it?" OMG YES!!! Musical cake themes, with bands, singers, etc. can create quite a buz around the bakery. In the past when I made the Bon Jovi cake, we rocked out, loud to some hair rock, including BJ. You see... it helps the mood. I asked her if it was alright if i played with the greeting to include a song lyric or something, not just plain happy birthday. She was open to the idea, so i jumped on the computer to listen to some lionel, to get my cake groove on.

Themes in Nature Art exhibit at the Round Lake Auditorium

It was a GREAT night in Round Lake Saturday. Many local artists displayed their works and proved just how talented this village is! I made a cake titled, "Stumped". All the flowers were made by hand over the weeks preceding the event. Everything was edible in this piece, except the wires used for the flower stems. Photos do not give it justice! you had to see it in person! the cake was cut and eaten the opening night of the exhibit to celebrate what is turning out to be a fantastic season at the Round Lake Auditorium.

We supported Community Hospice last week with a donation of 300 cupcakes for their Touched by an Angel event. Monique and Delia represented the Bread Basket at this event, handing out our cupcakes and chicken salad samples. I wanted to do fall flavored cupcakes so i whipped up some Pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and candied ginger garnish, chocolate cupcakes with mocha frosting, and yellow cupcakes with maple frosting and toasted walnut garnish. Turns out the mocha cupcakes were a crowd favorite, so watch out for them to pop up on our menu soon! Pumpkin and maple are currently available, while supplies last!

Navy ball and polka dot birthday

I had a cake this week that gave me a chance to be a bit more artistic. Time to bust out the paint brushes!! Rachel came to see me to help design a birthday cake for the US Navy for the annual Navy Ball. We decided that the navy emblem and a painting of the USS Constitution would be the perfect design for a crowd of 200. The cake was a double layer Yellow cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and strawberry mousse filling. I made the Navy emblem and ship out of Gumpaste plaques that i hand painted and they were completly edible!

Rachel sent me a thankful email and sent along some pics to share. I LOVE it when i get to see the reciepent with the cake. Thanks rachel, i enjoyed this one!!!

Faith turns two!

What a great design idea- match the cake to the papergoods. I love it when a customer brings in an invitation or napkin/plate to match the cake to. Faith had a stacked cake with each tier being both chocolate and yellow cake with vanilla buttercream. There is something about a buttery yellow cake- it looks so yummy :) Hope you had a nice bithday Faith!

Hannah turned 4 last week, and she wanted a bubble party! When I asked her what kind of cake she wanted for her party, she replied, "chocolate and strawberry". So that is what she got! A chocolate cake with strawberry preserve filling, vanilla buttercream and "bubble" decorations. Hats off to Adam (or should i say Bill Nye) for creating an awesome bubble game that made a large bubble around each kid!

Thanks Vera for sending this my way! I did a custom design for the gala dinner celebrating Maria College's 50th Anniversary. Hand painted gold letters on a butter colored fondant cake to match the invites. The cake served 100, with extra cake to serve the other 200 plates!

Matt, Angie and I hightailed it to Atlantic City last week for the American Bakery Expo. It was great, i had the chance to take a hands on class with the one and only Bronwen Weber. We created frankenstein heads and i got to sing a line or two from iron man by black sabbath with her cute fiancee, Frankie, Man-she's a lucky lady! I also got a shot with Colette Peters, i wish she was teaching a class. Overall it was an awesome time, i learned a few tricks of the trade and how to play the slot machines. A winner and a looser- ah well there is always next year, heard it might be in Vegas!
